• The U.S. imposed sanctions on the former president of Haiti's Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday for what it called "his extensive involvement in corruption" and blocked his entry into the United States.

• A second Idaho hospital announced it would stop delivering babies on June 1. The move comes two weeks after a hospital in northern Idaho announced they would close their labor and delivery unit citing "doctor shortages" and the state's "political climate."

• Federal agents conducting a training exercise at a Boston hotel broke into the wrong room and detained an innocent bystander, the FBI confirmed Wednesday. The FBI said its Boston division was "assisting" the Department of Defense in conducting a training exercise around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

• The US justice department has reached a tentative $144.5m deal with victims and relatives of those killed in a 2017 mass shooting in Texas. The massacre at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs left 26 dead.

• Robert F Kennedy Jr has filed election paperwork to run for US president in 2024 as a Democrat. The 69-year-old is the son of assassinated Senator Robert F Kennedy and nephew of President John F Kennedy.

• As Emmanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen meet Xi Jinping, they will be sending a message of unity - even as China seeks to exploit potential cracks in Europe's alliances. The French president and the head of the European Commission flew into Beijing on Wednesday and will be welcomed by the Chinese president on Thursday. Their joint trip is the latest in a noticeable push from European leaders to engage with China.

• The creator of the internationally renowned Catan board game, Klaus Teuber, has died aged 70. German-born Mr Teuber died on 1 April after a "short and serious" illness, his family said in a statement. More than 40 million copies of Catan have been sold since it came onto shelves in 1995, and it has been translated into more than 40 languages.

In total, the IRS said more than 168 million individual tax returns are expected to be filed this year "with the vast majority of those coming before the April 18 tax deadline." If your return contains no errors or red flags, your refund should be delivered within 21 days if you file electronically and opt to have the money directly deposited in your bank account, the IRS said.
