  • The global economy is facing a slew of problems - and all eyes are looking in one direction: America. Two banking failures in the US this month have raised fears about the health of the financial system.

  • A deadly fungal infection that is hard to treat is spreading rapidly at an "alarming" rate, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). US cases nearly doubled in 2021 from 756 to 1,471, says the CDC report.

  • A divided Oklahoma Supreme Court overturned a portion of the state's near-total ban on abortion, ruling women have a right to abortion when pregnancy risks their health, not just in a medical emergency. It was a narrow win for abortion rights advocates since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade.

  • The U.S. State Department cited credible reports of killings, arrests and torture in Nicaragua, as well as harsh and life-threatening conditions in the country's prisons, in an annual human rights report released on Monday.

  • U.S. President Joe Biden will make a long-delayed visit to close ally Canada this week to express unity on Ukraine and the environment, but is unlikely to make much progress on tougher trade disputes, sources said on Tuesday.
